Pet Significance in Silence of the Lambs and Our Thriller Opening

In our opening thriller sequence we tried to show a link between the antagonist in our thriller opening taking his dog for a walk and the antagonist Buffalo Bill’s unconditional love for his pet poodle ‘Precious’. The dog reference in Silence of the Lambs portrays the antagonist as deranged and a despicable killer, who has no empathy for human life but loves his pet. As we see in Silence of the Lambs, Buffalo Bill often refers to his victim as ‘it’ as if they were an inanimate object, whereas he refers to his pet by his name and also allowing the pet a much better treatment than to what the victim receives. Later on in the film, the victim tries to capture Precious as a way to get her revenge on her capturer, knowing that the little dog is dear to him.
